How kyrgyz national currency has changed over 22 years

Today the som is presented with seven values of banknotes of IV series: 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 and 5000 soms. Besides banknotes of IV series there are banknotes of III series in circulation, they are 1, 5 and 10 soms. Tyins firstly were banknotes of square form, presented in three values: 1, 10 and 50 tyins. In January 2008 there were issued coins, they are 10 and 50 tyins, 1, 3, 5 soms, in December 2009 10 som coin was issued.

In March 2009 a banknote worth 5000 soms with an image of actor Suimonkul Chokmorov on it was put into circulation. On 3 July 2009 National bank announced about its introduction of banknotes of IV series into circulation , they are 20, 50 and 100 soms. Since December 2010,  200, 500 and 1000 soms banknotes were put into circulation.
